Why Choose Us

Psychiatric Care That Actually Feels Different

Most patients have been through the system before they find us. They've had 15-minute appointments, providers who barely looked up from a screen, and prescriptions handed out without real conversation. We built this practice to be the opposite of that.

We Started This Practice Because the Standard of Care Wasn't Good Enough

S. Jackson Psychiatry was founded by a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who spent years in critical care nursing before transitioning to psychiatry — and who served in the United States Air Force. That background shapes everything about how we practice. We know what it means to be thorough. We know what it means to be under pressure. And we know what patients lose when a provider doesn't take the time to actually understand them.

"

You are not a 15-minute appointment. You are a person with a history, a context, and a life — and your care should reflect that.

Six Reasons Patients Choose Us

What Makes This Practice Different

01

Boutique Practice — Not a Pill Mill

We intentionally limit our patient panel. That means you get a provider who knows your name, remembers your history, and has time to think carefully about your care. We are not a high-volume clinic optimizing for throughput. We are a small practice optimizing for outcomes.

Most psychiatric clinics: 15–20 minute appointments, high patient volume, rotating providers
S. Jackson Psychiatry: extended appointments, consistent provider, unhurried care
02

Veteran-Founded, Veteran-Informed

Our founder is an Air Force veteran. That is not a marketing credential — it is a clinical lens. We understand military culture, the stigma around mental health in service communities, the complexity of VA claims, and what it actually takes to support a veteran patient. We complete nexus letters, DBQs, and IMOs with the clinical rigor they require.

Most practices: limited veteran-specific expertise, unfamiliar with VA documentation
S. Jackson Psychiatry: veteran-founded, VA documentation specialists, military-informed care
03

Comprehensive Evaluations — Not Assumptions

We do not walk into your first appointment with a diagnosis already in mind. We conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations that take your full history into account — medical, psychiatric, social, and family. Many of our patients have been misdiagnosed before. We take that seriously.

Most practices: brief intake, rapid diagnosis, prescription on first visit
S. Jackson Psychiatry: comprehensive evaluation, full history review, diagnosis earned not assumed
04

Integrated Psychiatric and Therapeutic Care

Medication management and therapy are not separate tracks at our practice — they are integrated. We provide supportive counseling alongside psychiatric care, and we coordinate closely with outside therapists when needed. You do not have to manage two separate providers who never talk to each other.

Most practices: medication management only, therapy referred elsewhere with no coordination
S. Jackson Psychiatry: integrated psychiatric and therapeutic support under one roof
05

Middle Georgia Roots — Community Investment

This practice was built in Macon, for Macon. Our founder grew up in Middle Georgia and returned here intentionally — because this community deserves access to high-quality psychiatric care, not just what's left over after the larger markets are served. We are not a franchise. We are a local practice with a long-term commitment to this region.

Most practices: corporate-owned, provider turnover, no community investment
S. Jackson Psychiatry: locally owned, community-rooted, here for the long term
06

Telehealth Without Compromise

Our telehealth appointments are not a lesser version of in-person care. The same provider, the same thoroughness, the same time. We serve patients throughout Georgia — whether you are in Macon, rural Middle Georgia, or anywhere else in the state. Telehealth is not a workaround. It is a full-service option.

Most practices: telehealth as overflow, different providers, shorter appointments
S. Jackson Psychiatry: same provider, same quality, statewide via telehealth

Who We Are the Right Fit For

We are not the right practice for everyone — and we are honest about that. Here is who we serve best.

Patients who've been dismissed before

If you've been told your symptoms aren't serious, your concerns aren't valid, or your diagnosis doesn't fit — you deserve a second opinion from someone who will actually listen.

Veterans navigating the VA system

If you need a nexus letter, DBQ, or IMO — or if you simply want a provider who understands military culture and doesn't need it explained — this is the right place.

Adults who suspect undiagnosed ADHD

If you've spent your life being told you're disorganized, unfocused, or not trying hard enough — and you've never been properly evaluated — we can help you get clarity.

Patients who want a real relationship with their provider

If you're tired of starting over with a new face every few months, we offer continuity of care with a provider who knows your history and your goals.

Families seeking child and adolescent care

If your child or teenager is struggling and you want a provider who treats them with the same clinical rigor as an adult patient — not a watered-down version of care.

Patients anywhere in Georgia via telehealth

If you live outside Macon or prefer the convenience of telehealth, we provide the same quality of care remotely — statewide, with no compromise.
